Madeleine L'Engle (1918-2007) fue una escritora estadounidense reconocida por su contribución a la literatura juvenil de ciencia ficción y fantasía. Su obra más destacada, "Una arruga en el tiempo" (1962), le valió la Medalla Newbery y ha sido traducida a numerosos idiomas.

Esta novela es la primera de la serie "El quinteto del tiempo", que incluye títulos como "Una grieta en el espacio" (1973) y "Un planeta a la deriva" (1978). L'Engle también exploró la poesía y la no ficción, reflejando en sus escritos su fe cristiana y su interés por la ciencia moderna.
