Jim Dodge (Santa Rosa, California, 1945) es un novelista y poeta estadounidense, conocido por su estilo que fusiona folclore, fantasía y crítica cultural. Obtuvo un MFA en escritura creativa por la Universidad de Iowa en 1969 y ha desempeñado diversos oficios, desde pastor de ovejas hasta restaurador ambiental. Durante años vivió en una comuna autosuficiente en el condado de Sonoma. Desde 1995, ha sido director del programa de escritura creativa en la Universidad Estatal de Humboldt en California .

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran las novelas Fup (1983), Not Fade Away (1987) y Stone Junction (1990). En 2002 publicó Rain on the River, una recopilación de poemas y prosas breves escritas entre 1970 y 2001, traducida al español como Lluvia sobre el río en 2017 . Su obra ha sido elogiada por autores como Thomas Pynchon y se caracteriza por una sensibilidad lírica que combina humor, ternura y una profunda conexión con la naturaleza
