For nearly sixty years, from 1966 to 2023, Olivier Picard studied the coinage of ancient cities, covering a vast territory from Chalcis, Euboea to Marseille and from Alexandria, Egypt to the great insular city of Thasos, in the Northern Aegean. He published more on the subject than anyone previously had. The fruits of his research, both historical and archaeological, have considerably enriched our understanding of numismatics in the Greek world.
