Stephen King (Portland, Maine, 21 de septiembre de 1947) es uno de los autores más influyentes y prolíficos de la literatura contemporánea, célebre por revitalizar el género del terror y conquistar a millones de lectores en todo el mundo. Se graduó en Lengua Inglesa por la Universidad de Maine y trabajó como profesor antes de dedicarse por completo a la escritura tras el éxito de su primera novela, Carrie (1974). Desde entonces, ha publicado más de 60 novelas y cientos de relatos cortos, muchos bajo el seudónimo Richard Bachman, con títulos emblemáticos como El resplandor, IT, Misery, La torre oscura, Cementerio de animales y La milla verde, muchos de ellos adaptados exitosamente al cine y la televisión. Su narrativa, caracterizada por explorar los rincones más oscuros de la mente humana y de la sociedad, ha vendido más de 500 millones de ejemplares y ha sido traducida a decenas de idiomas.
