The story begins with the sudden death and dramatic resuscitation of its President at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in London. This alarming event propels a Professor of Genetics and Cardiac Surgeon, with little liking for each other, to a Mobile Advanced Surgical Hospital, a MASH, treating casualties of the war in Bosnia in the late summer of 1995. There, the visitors and staff not only cope with he surgical interventions of war, but also face challenging events that bristle with ethical and social problems, involving the unlikable cardiac surgeon with the female doctors and nurses in devious deceits, exciting sexual intrigues and mysterious disappearances - and violent deaths. In the closing chapters, the final fast moving events take place back in London where the final twists in the turn of the tale culminate in an astonishing climax.
