The turn of a card, the roll of the dice, these are the things that Chance Knightly lives for. When he drifts into the boom town of Hangover Wells however, he finds that life quickly becomes more of a gamble than he is used to. Caught up in a feud between two rival gambling halls, Chance is soon pitted against one of the richest and most powerful men in town, who happens to be his old partner. His choice of employees does not endear him to the local chapter of the Anti-Chinese League, and his list of enemies grows. On top of it all, the young widow who runs the boardinghouse, and the lovely lady who owns a gambling hall are both sending longing glances Chance's way. Up against gunmen, con men, thugs, and sharpers, Chance must outwit, outfight and out hustle them all if he wants to keep from being run out of town wearing a suit of tar and feathers. He is ready and willing to do battle in the ring or on a table of green felt, but it is the two women who will really teach him that life is one big Game of Chance.
