Pucklechurch in South Gloucestershire is gripped with community enthusiasm for the upcoming annual Pucklechurch Pie & Scone Festival Oliver Awards of 2026, the 'Eliza Trophy' being the highest award of the event, set aside for the Lady's Apple Pie category. Representatives from the Ye Olde London Pie & Scone Baker's & Baxter's Guild were set to arrive in Pucklechurch within a matter of days, and the stiff and stuffy entourage were soon served bad news well before being served lunch.

Disaster strikes the ancient village after a morning dog-walker discovers a deceased person on the hallowed turf of the Pucklechurch Cricket Ground, and she snaps a quick selfie with the mid-pitch corpse, posting it to her Facebook with the caption, 'Good lord, the things one finds whilst walking one's dog in the morning!'.

Oh, the very scandal of it all!

Bristol Police officers believe no murder occurs without the involvement of criminal intent and foul play, and this leads them to suspect six-times Eliza Trophy winner, Elsie Porter, may know a little more than simply how to bake a darn good apple pie. Torn between their duty to community and love of yummy pastries, the police launch their investigation into the pretty English baxter's affairs.
