Allan Slutsky (Filadelfia, EE. UU.) es un guitarrista, arreglista y escritor estadounidense, conocido también por el seudónimo "Dr. Licks". Graduado del Berklee College of Music en 1978, se ha especializado en la transcripción y análisis de solos de guitarra y bajo, contribuyendo significativamente a la educación musical. Su enfoque combina el rigor académico con una profunda comprensión del soul y el funk, destacándose como una figura influyente en la documentación de la música popular estadounidense.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentra Standing in the Shadows of Motown: The Life and Music of Legendary Bassist James Jamerson (1989), que combina biografía y transcripciones musicales del bajista James Jamerson, y fue galardonada con el premio Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award. Posteriormente, produjo el documental homónimo Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002), que amplía el enfoque a The Funk Brothers, el grupo de músicos de sesión de Motown, y recibió dos premios Grammy en 2003.
