₡ 9.231The first permanent water did not appear where anyone expected.
It happened nearly two years later.
And it happened at night.
Kera was the one who saw it first.
She had been walking along the lower observation path beneath Ravine City when the signal beneath the canyon shifted again.
Not stronger.
Just different.
The rhythm paused.
Then returned.
Pulse.
Pause.
Pulse.
But something else moved with it now.
She stepped closer to the canyon floor.
At first she thought the dark line across the rock was just shadow.
Then the moonlight caught it.
Liquid.
A thin ribbon of water moved slowly through the ancient stone.
Not a surge.
Not a temporary stream like the ones before.
This one kept flowing.
Kera stared at it quietly.
Behind her, the lights of Ravine City reflected faintly across the canyon walls.
Above her, the stars burned through the thin Martian atmosphere.
And beneath her feet, the rhythm of the planet continued.
For the first time since humanity arrived on Mars...
The water did not disappear.
