The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. The literature that can help to provide permanent comfort and peace to the life of a common man breathing in a fragmented society and an oppressive system is undoubtedly 'Literature for Life'. This book, "Ghulami (Slavery)", is a collection of selected short stories by the writer Ahmad Ali of the third decade of the twentieth century. Ahmed Ali was considered one of the most highly educated people of his time, and he was proficient in Persian poetry and prose as well as Urdu./ایک منتشر معاشرہ اور جابرانہ نظام میں سانس لیتے عام آدمی کی زندگی کو مستقل طور پر آرام اور سکون فراہم کرنے کے لیے جو ادب معاون ثابت ہو سکتا ہے وہ بلاشبہ 'ادب برائے زندگی' ہی ہے۔ یہ کتاب "غلامی" بیسویں صدی کی تیسری دہائی کے ادیب احمد علی کے منتخب افسانوں کا مجموعہ ہے۔ احمد علی کا شمار اپنے زمانے کے اعلیٰ تعلیم یافتہ لوگوں میں ہوتا تھا، وہ اردو کے ساتھ فارسی نظم و نثر پر بھی قادر تھے۔
