Joanne Rowling (Yate, 1965), conocida mundialmente como J.K. Rowling, es una escritora y guionista británica que ha dejado una marca profunda en la literatura contemporánea gracias a la creación de la saga de Harry Potter. Su obra no solo revolucionó la literatura infantil y juvenil, sino que también se convirtió en un fenómeno cultural global. Antes de alcanzar el éxito, Rowling estudió Filología y trabajó en diversos empleos, incluyendo Amnistía Internacional. Fue durante un viaje en tren cuando surgió la idea de Harry Potter, que, tras superar dificultades personales como la pérdida de su madre y la crianza en solitario de su hija, logró publicar en 1997 tras varios rechazos editoriales. La saga de Harry Potter, con más de 600 millones de ejemplares vendidos y traducida a múltiples idiomas, es su obra más influyente.
