Roberto Calasso (1941-2021) fue un escritor, editor y ensayista italiano reconocido por su erudición y estilo narrativo que fusiona mitología, historia y literatura. Su obra más conocida es Las bodas de Cadmo y Harmonía (1988), un ensayo-novela sobre la mitología griega. Entre sus libros destacados también se encuentran Ka (1996), centrado en la tradición hindú, La literatura y los dioses (2001) y El libro de todos los libros (2019), que reinterpreta textos bíblicos desde una perspectiva literaria y filosófica.

Su producción literaria, a menudo clasificada dentro del ensayo y la narrativa filosófica, explora la historia de la cultura y sus símbolos. Además de su labor como autor, fue director de la editorial Adelphi, influyendo en el mundo literario con sus publicaciones y traducciones.
