This Lecture is intended to be...I think, my last labor of the kind in Masonry. I hope that I have succeeded in rescuing part of the Symbols of Freemasonry, in some degree, from the condition of insignificance into which they had fallen and in proving that there is something in the Royal Art to make it worthy of the attention, and study of men of intellect and learning; which they have not heretofore believed. The mass of Masons are little inclined to read works on Masonry. And I think it wiser, also, to place these works in a few hands, and let what truths they may contain be communicated orally to others by the few who read them. I have endeavoured to do that for our symbols, and am amply rewarded by what I have learned. This book is extremely scarce as there were only 100 copies ever printed. This is the first reprint ever of this essential, illuminating work, on Freemasonry. Highly recommended.

Albert Pike (Boston, 1809 – Washington D.C., 1891) fue un abogado, militar, poeta y destacado líder de la masonería estadounidense. En 1859, fue elegido Soberano Gran Comendador del Supremo Consejo del Grado 33 del Rito Escocés Antiguo y Aceptado para la Jurisdicción Sur de los Estados Unidos, cargo que desempeñó hasta su fallecimiento . Durante su mandato, Pike dedicó gran parte de su tiempo al desarrollo de los rituales esotéricos de la orden, consolidándose como una figura central en la historia de la masonería norteamericana.

Su obra más influyente es Moral y Dogma del Rito Escocés Antiguo y Aceptado de la Francmasonería (1871), un extenso tratado de 861 páginas que explora el simbolismo y la filosofía de los 32 primeros grados del rito . Este libro se convirtió en una guía esencial para los masones del siglo XIX y fue distribuido entre los miembros del rito en la Jurisdicción Sur de EE.UU. hasta 1974 . Además de su labor masónica, Pike escribió sobre temas religiosos y filosóficos, incluyendo Indo-Aryan Deities and Worship as Contained in the Rig-Veda, reflejando su interés por las tradiciones espirituales antiguas.
