A vivid description of the horrific atmosphere during the partition, Savage Harvest: Stories Of Partition is a great tribute to the men and women who risked their lives against all odds at that time to defend the spirit of humanity. The book has a story about a poet who returns to his home across the border, to find that his books are intact among strangers, who have guarded them from being destroyed. These strangers do not know him and yet they valued his work. There is also a story about a wife's faith, that destroys the imbedded hatred in her husband's heart. And, there is a lovely story about a dog that gives up his life to protect his mistress, when humanity is in distress and threatened. The stories are powerful, and in the background of the partition of 1947, they are examples of the human spirit and the existence of pure human values amidst the horrors of those times.
