"Their brief and passionate lives were dominated by the elemental hatred that Morgoth bore them as the children of Húrin, the man who had dared to defy and to scorn him to his face. Against them he sent his most formidable servant, Glaurung, a powerful spirit in the form of a huge wingless dragon of fire. Into this story of brutal conquest and flight, of forest hiding-places and pursuit, of resistance with lessening hope, the Dark Lord and the Dragon enter in direly articulate form. J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) fue un influyente escritor, poeta, filólogo y profesor británico, célebre por sus obras de fantasía heroica. Entre sus creaciones más destacadas se encuentran “El hobbit”, “El Señor de los Anillos” (trilogía épica) y “El Silmarillion”, que exploran el mundo de la Tierra Media.

Profesor en la Universidad de Oxford y miembro del grupo literario los Inklings (con C.S. Lewis), Tolkien fue nombrado Comendador de la Orden del Imperio Británico en 1972. Su obra ha marcado un hito en la literatura fantástica.

(Reino Unido, 1924 - Francia, 2020) fue un escritor británico, tercer hijo del también escritor J. R. R. Tolkien y Edith Bratt. Fue designado por éste como su albacea literario. Aparte de ser la principal autoridad mundial en la obra de J.R.R. Tolkien, ha sido un editor enormemente tenaz, perspicaz y solvente que realizó una obra titánica durante más de cuarenta años. Tras el fallecimiento de J.R.R. Tolkien en 1973, Christopher Tolkien dejó su trabajo en la Universidad de Oxford para dedicarse a poner orden en la enorme cantidad de manuscritos que el famoso autor de El Señor de los Anillos había dejado inéditos.
