William Peter Blatty (1928-2017) fue un escritor, guionista y director estadounidense, conocido principalmente por su obra más famosa, El Exorcista (1971), una novela de terror que se convirtió en un fenómeno literario y cinematográfico. La historia, que explora el tema de la posesión demoníaca y la lucha entre el bien y el mal, fue adaptada exitosamente al cine en 1973, ganando el Premio Óscar al Mejor Guion Adaptado.
