This slender volume describes the conflict between Pennsylvania and Connecticut over the disputed lands of northern Pennsylvania and early settlement in the area. Discussions range from early settlers to the mid-1800s, and include: Puritans, Moravian missionaries, detailed accounts of numerous conflicts with Indians, negotiations and disputes between Connecticut and Pennsylvania over this territory, Colonel John Butler, and much more. The author paints a vivid picture of the area and the people who lived there. The History of the Wyoming Valley epitomized in this little story is one of the saddest and most dramatic ever acted. The place in which it was acted is an amphitheatre fashioned by the hand of the Almighty. The arena is a plain, the walls are the blue hills and in the place of silken canopies, the fathomless sky. Several charming illustrations by the author enhance the elegant narrative. A full-name index has been added.
