The book consists of four chapters. Chapter One deals with the English translation history of the Chu ci from the perspective of Antoine Berman's "Retranslation Cycle Hypothesis". Chapter Two makes a study of Jiao Qianqian's translation of the "Xiang jun", namely Chapter 5, from American Sinologist Geoffrey R. Waters's work Three Elegies of Ch'u from the perspective of back translation and cultural restitution. Chapter Three explores Li Ye's translation of the "Donghuang taiyi", namely Chapter 3, from Three Elegies of Ch'u based on thick translation theory. Chapter Four examines Yangchen Mingwan's translation of the "Yunzhong jun", namely Chapter 4, from Three Elegies of Ch'u based on John Dryden's tripartite division of translation.
