Each event played a part - positive or negative - in shaping the country. The organization of the text centers on times of transition: the formation of early civilization, the transition into a strongly religious nation, superstitious culture, moving towards selfgovernance, and becoming a country that faces internal social, economic, and racial tension. Students will consider not only different historical patterns, but the interconnectedness of historical events, human behavior, and scientific evidence. Specific topics include colonization, the antebellum religious crises, bicameralism, the economic policies of Andrew Jackson, and early feminism. Each selection takes a specific stance on an issue, lending itself to classroom engagement and debate. All sections feature an original introduction to place the readings in context, as well as critical thinking questions. United States History to 1877 examines not just the facts of events, but their meaning and consequences. This lively text is ideal for undergraduate courses in United States history. A United States Marine, Peter Tsahiridis earned his J.D. at the Appalachian School of Law, as well as two master's degrees - the first in history at the American Military University and the second in psychology through Northcentral University. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in psychology at Grand Canyon University. He teaches numerous courses online including world civilizations, the literature of war, and military history. He is also a faculty member at Missouri State University, Springfield where he teaches in a traditional classroom setting."
