This book provides a psychosocial analysis of the Vietnamese audience reception of Korean television dramas (K-drama), a genre escalating the popularisation of the South Korean pop culture worldwide known as the Korean Wave. Featuring case studies of individual viewing experiences of male and female participants interviewed in 2019, it focuses on the themes of fantasy, lack, and melancholia conceptualised by Sigmund Freud, Donald Winnicott, and Jacques Lacan, among other influential figures in psychoanalysis. It explores the psychosocial impact of romantic K-drama, which has established an enduring presence in Vietnam since the late 1990s amid the country's transition to capitalist-driven socio-economic tendencies, especially on local viewers' explorations of romantic emotions imbued with loss, longings, and nostalgia. The study adopts a psychosocial approach marked by the psychoanalytically informed biography-based `free association' narrative interview model and interdisciplinary interpretive methods involving sociology, psychology, psychoanalysis, and cultural studies. 
This engaging work offers fresh insights on a growing phenomenon that will appeal across the social sciences and in particular to those working in the areas of media audience research, psychoanalysis, gender studies, the Korean Wave, and Vietnamese studies.
